SALISBURY, Md. – Grace Henslee has been a standout for Parkside on the field for years, most recently helping her school get to new heights this fall, the field hockey state semifinals.

“Just to watch us grow each year has been so nice to watch. And getting as far as we did was really nice to finish it off as a senior,” Henslee said.

Now field hockey is in the rear-view mirror, up ahead is her senior year of girls lacrosse, coming off a season she was named to the all-conference first team. And she hopes to finish her high school career strong.

“I think this year we’re getting a lot of strong freshmen, and our team is already strong, and think we’ll be able to go far this season.”

But there have been challenges along the way, including injuries to both ankles in separate incidents, one costing her an entire season of lacrosse her Freshman year.

“My first instinct was like man my season’s over now, and I can’t play. And it was really heartbreaking.”

Henslee has been back and better than ever. The work to improve continues. You can find her in the gym working to get stronger, faster and putting in work to improve her off hand skills.

“My footwork, mostly. And just getting faster. And also my arms, just getting a stronger shot, and just getting stronger on the field and not getting pushed around.”

And that work will carry over in Henslee’s collegiate career. The senior has already committed to Stetson University, a D-I school in Florida. Not a surprise when you find out she has earned a 4.4 GPA in the classroom. And she has a good idea of what she wants to focus on for life after sports.

“I think I want to major in Psychology. And if that doesn’t work out, maybe Biology.”
