Parkside Indoor Track - Athletes in the Spotlight

SALISBURY, Md. – After the anchors had crossed the finish line and the dust had settled, Parkside had won and set a new record for the 4 x 200 relay — 1 minute, 34.8 seconds.

But if not for a last second change to the order, this feat may not have been possible.

The narrow track at the Worcester County Recreation Center in Snow Hill forced the Rams to re-think their strategy. The Rams figured the team who got out in front would ultimately take home the gold.

“We had to change the order because we weren’t getting the time we wanted,” said senior anchor Logan Church. “We just knew that we were getting beat from the start, so we had to switch it up.”

And that plan worked.

Parkside jumped out in front thanks to Travis Waters, who handed off to Davyan Wilson; a first year runner, then to Cory White, and finally Church, the senior whose been with the team for three years.

“It’s a lot of pressure, you’ve got to make sure you get the baton, everything is smooth, and then you’ve got to finish out your race,” Church said.
